Crab meat is so diverse and can be used in so many cultural dishes that we thought it proper to put these pages together accordingly. So, if you are looking for something to make with crab meat on Easter, Christmas, Cinco de Mayo or what have you, you should get some great ideas for your special celebration!
Written by Cynthia Nims, "Crab"- While we American cooks are devoted to our measuring cups and spoons, much of the rest of the world uses more precise weight measurements when cooking, ad in some cases I do think it's a better system. The way you measure "1 cup crab meat" may differ from the way that I do, depending on how much you pack the crab into the cup and if it's finely flaked or in bigger pieces. For this reason, I chose to use weight measure for recipes that use bulk meat. You can either purchase just the weight you need at the store, or consider getting yourself a kitchen scale. In a pinch, though, here are some rough cup-measure equivalents:
Crab Meat by weight and measurement:
1 ounce=about 3 Tablespoons
2 ounces=about 1/3 cup
4 ounces=about 3/4 cup
5 1/2 ounces=about 1 cup
8 ounces=about 1 1/2 cups
1 pound=about 3 cups of crab meat
